History
The Hotel Palazzo Giaracá Siracusa has an interesting
history all of its own that has made it the unique 3
star hotel it is today. This value for money 3 star
residence on the island of Ortigia was designed by the
well know Italian architect Carlo Sada. Sada was born
in Milan in 1849 and learned his trade under his more
conventional mentor, Andrea Scala.
However,
with an eye for the theatrical, Sada became known for
taking the plans of those who commissioned him and making
the designs ever more detailed, innovative and artistic.
His passion and tireless work would inevitably be unappreciated
by many who had paid a lot of money for the realisation
of their own particular visions, but Sada’s artistic
enthusiasm was rewarded when he was given the commission
for the completion of what would be the Sicilian city
of Catania’s most prominent theatre, Il Teatro
Nuovaluce.
The Nuovaluce would later become known as Teatro Bellini
and proudly stands today as one of Catania’s most
beautiful and enigmatic landmarks, superseded only by
the Duomo of Sant’Agata itself.
Among other projects (such as our building) Sada would
build a total of seven theatres during his life, including
one in Brazil, before passing away in Catania in 1924.
